Off to higher places

I spent the last five days in Drake Bay. I relished the natural wonders of the Osa Peninsula, particularly Corcovado National Park. It was a small town - only 2 restaurants - and even a phone call was made through the market! Apparently electricity has also only been around for the last five years.

As much as I wanted to trek the whole park, it required planning, very advanced reservations, and monitoring the tides (20 km is a beach trail!).

Two big highlights.
1. I spent a day hiking towards Corcovado. I saw plenty of wildlife, but the show of 7 scarlet macaws chatting and fighting over cashews in one tree was amazing!
2. I gave in after 3 days and took a boat ride and walking tour into Corcovado, a Serena Ranger Station. I saw mammals I never heard of and birds I dreamed about. People claim 10 to 20 % of all mammals live in the Park.

Now I am in San Isidro and waiting for a bus to San Gerardo. I have befriended another Canadian, Forrest, and we plan to climb Mt. Chirripo - Costa Rica`s highest peak. There is actually a hostel near the summit, not a bad deal. I have been loving all my outdoor hikes and look forward to a little climb!
