Tomorrow I say adios to Guatemala. I fly to Costa Rica and return to Guate in mid-March.
This past semana, I went to Monterrico. It is a beach town along the Pacific that attracts Guate families and some tourists. Unlike the Pacific in Cali, the beaches are negra, the water is warm, and the waves are turbulant. I went in to my knees, but the right wave and rip current could easily pull me under!
I met two Canadian women (sisters) on the shuttle and we shared a room at El Delphin, a quaint hotel with hammocks that lined the shore. I spent most of my beach time in a hammock or taking walks. At dusk, I witnessed a fantastic sunset and helped release a baby sea turtle. Of course, I enjoyed these ventures with 50+ national and international tourists!
On Sunday, my new friends and I took a sunrise gondola tour through a Nature Reserve in the the mangrove swamps. Lots of bird watching this time of year - particularly egrets!
My ride home didn´t quite match the delight of my vacation. I saw my first dead person - when there is an accident they cover the person with a stretcher, but no sheet! My other discomfort came from the ¨couples¨ on my bus who didn´t seem authentic (young Guate ladies with some tourists!)
Pictures soon - I promise!

How is your stomach after the tamale you ate? I wont be as good at avoiding foods when I come to visit. I want to learn about the flavors of the foods they eat. Hope I'll stomach it. Glad to hear adventures are going well. Will be getting my vaccines this month. Which ones did you get? Did you get the ones for malaria and typhoid? LOVE YOU!
You go Molly! I'm so impressed by all the adventurous things you are taking on. Now I get to live vicariously through you too. :) Can't wait to see some photos.
